10 days of maintenance on stahlratte in cartagena. a fresh painted (from
inside) watertank and many little things are done and now we are on open
with 6 motorcycles on deck sailing towards SAN BLAS/PANAMA
the weather ios calm and pretty and calm
we hade a great 10 days cruise with full ship from carti through the san
blas islands to sapzurro and then arrived to cartagena on sunday. now we
are on anchor in cartagena and hundreds of things listed on our
workinglist want to be done in the next 2 weeks....
12:30 today we lifted anchor and set sails after a big shopping in
providencia and now we are with 5 knots on course to guna yala (san
blas). weather is great and easy.
this morning at 5am we dropped anchor in front of ISLA STA CATALINA in
80 miles left to reach providencia island! we are still sailing between
8 -9 knots and will reach our „little jamaica“ tonight.
first 100 miles are done and we finally got the deserved wind 25knots
eastnortheast and we are running on course with up to 10knots of speed.
great sailing with rough seas….thats what stahlratte likes:)
We have left the beautifull port antonio this morning 10am and after 4 hours
motoring eastwards we are under full sails sailing around the eastern tip of
jamaica. The weather is great and everything is relaxed!
it took 28hours to sail from santiago to port antonio where we arrived
yesterday evening at 10pm. bar was still open so we welcomed ourselfes
to this place with a couple of „mudslides“ now waiting for authorities
so we are allowed to leave the ship and marina. — Von logbook steelrat

After almost 4 weeks repairs and maintenance in CIENFUEGOS we had a 5
days sail against the winds to santiago de cuba where we arrived the day
before yesterday. today we are leaving santiago in the afternoon to sail
the 100miles to port antonio/jamaica. The 2 cracks in the cylinderheads
could be provisionally welded in cienfuegos. one of the two seems to be
gvood and tight but one is still not tight at all, but engine runs on
her 4 cylinders and so we will easily reach cartagena where the new made
cylinderheads are waiting for us.
Yesterday morning 10am we dropped anchor in the bay of cienfuegos in front of the marina marlin. The last 90nm we had to motorsail against a strong not predicted wind. Not very good for our engine as we have found out that we have a crack in one of the cylinderheads. Especially bad as there is no spareparts existing anymore, so now we are hoping to get this fixed here in cuba in a provisional way and at the same time we have ordered to manufacture 2 new cylinderheads in cartagena. Our travelplans have changed now: we had to cancel the tour mexico–cuba–mexico and instead we will do this here !
